WoW: Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post started by Breaking the Spine to showcase books we are patiently awaiting.

My WoW for the week:
For seventeen years, Eloise Hart had no idea the world of Faery even existed. Now she has been abducted and trapped in the Rath of Lord Strahan, King of Faery. Strahan was only meant to rule for seven years, as Faery tradition dictates, and then give up his crown to another. But he won't comply, and now chaos threatens both worlds.

The only one who can break his stranglehold on the Faery court is his wife. . . Eloise's aunt Antonia. Using Eloise to lure Antonia, Strahan captures his wife, desperate to end the only threat to his reign. Now Eloise must become the rescuer. Together with her best friends Jo and Devin, she must forge alliances with other Fae, including a gorgeous protector named Lucas, and Strahan's mysterious son, Eldric-who may or may not betray them.

Review: Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan

Immortal Beloved is the first book in the Immortal Beloved trilogy by Cate Tiernan and a YA from Poppy.

Book Blurb:

New name, new town, new life.

Nothing ever really ends when you’re immortal.  Nastasya has started over too many times to count, and there’s no end in sight.

Tired of her meaningless party-girl life, Nastasya heads to River’s Edge, a safe haven for wayward immortals.  She trades her designer clothes for jeans and flannel, and the hardest drink available is tea.  There she meets a “Viking god’, the gorgeous, sexy Reyn.

He’s irresistible, but there’s also something uncomfortable familiar about Reyn that makes Nastasya wary, cautioning her to stay away.

Except she can’t.

Soon Nastasya realizes that River’s Edge holds the key to her salvation - and her possible destruction.  Is she the only one at River’s Edge with dark secrets?  And can dark secrets be fatal - even for immortals?

My thoughts:

Nastasya is an immortal.  She has lived more than 400 years - yet still appears to be a very young looking 20 year old.  And that is only in the right light, with the right make-up.

Events in her past have molded her into the person she is today - unfeeling, uncaring, cold.  But when her best friend callously and cruelly harms a human - Nastasya becomes scared.

Hesitant to take too close of a look at herself, she is none the less determined to put distance between herself and her friends.  Nastasya recalls a woman from her past and an offer of sanctuary.

Hoping that offer still stands, Nastasya heads to America and River’s Edge.  There she finds much needed sanctuary, security, routine and yes - acceptance.  She begins to feel like change is possible.

But just as that change begins, Nastasya’s past is brought shockingly to the present and threatens to erase all the progress she has made.

Immortal Beloved is the first book I have read by Cate Tiernan and I loved it.

Though a YA, it does not read like a YA - no angsty coming of age drama.

I give Immortal Beloved 5 out of 5 stars.
